EMSA Memo -Proof of Vaccination (October 7, 2021)

EMSA and Ontario Soccer over the past year, have closely monitored the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and will continue to do so until the pandemic is over.

On October 6, 2021, Huron Perth Public Health, the Middlesex-London Health Unit and Southwestern Public Health announced additional proof of vaccination requirements for recreational facilities used for organized sports. Proof of Covid-19 vaccination will now be required for anyone over the age of 12 who enters an indoor area of sports or recreational fitness facility to participate in, coach, officiate or watch organized sport.  The requirement will come into effect on October 31, 2021. Please review the MLHU website for full details https://www.healthunit.com/section-22-orders-and-instructions.

EMSA recently has consulted with Ontario Soccer to review some details outlined in the Return to Play (RTP) Guide.  As stated in the OS bulletins 12021-071, 075, & 076, Ontario Soccer made it quite clear that they do not have jurisdiction over the proof of vaccination requirements across the province.  These directives come from the individual Public Health Units and the Municipalities in each District.

The OS RTP Guide is a reflection of current Provincial government legislation and Ministry of Health directives.  The RTP Guide is a document that reflects recommendations, not mandatory requirements and this document does not supersede the current Provincial government legislation, Public Health Unit controls or Municipality directives.

As we carry out plans for the safe continuation of our game for players, coaches, match officials, clubs and leagues; our top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our community.

Lastly,  you will find a message from the  Human Rights Tribunal that may provide you with some additional information and clarification regarding vaccination mandates.

Respectfully,

The EMSA Board of Directors
